There’s something about the holidays that invites nostalgia — the kind that feels warm, familiar, and just a little bit magical. This couples portrait session took place inside a thoughtfully styled Christmas pop-up studio filled with vintage holiday details, cozy textures, and playful moments that felt more like a shared experience than a traditional photo session!
Rather than focusing on stiff poses or perfect smiles, this session leaned into connection, creativity, and the joy of being fully present together.
From the moment we walked into the space on Music Row in Nashville, it felt like stepping into another era. Warm tones, retro decor, twinkling lights, and vintage holiday accents created an atmosphere that was equal parts cozy, playful, and cinematic.
Instead of treating the set like a backdrop, we treated it like a place to exist together — sitting on the floor by wrapped presents, flipping through records and The Nashville Scene (the best reading material) slow dancing by the Christmas tree, sharing coffee at a diner table, and even making music together (or pretending to anyways, haha!)
Those in-between moments are where the magic really lives.
Pop-up studios offer something truly special: novelty without pressure.
Because these spaces are temporary and intentionally styled, couples often feel less stuck in their heads and more open to play. There’s no wondering what to do with your hands or how to pose — the environment invites interaction naturally.
Pop-up studios help couples:
While I don’t host pop-up studios myself, I love collaborating with creative spaces like this and helping couples envision sessions that feel unique, intentional, and aligned with who they are.
One of the most beautiful parts of photographing in a space like this is allowing the environment to inform the mood of the session.
This session unfolded in the most fun, playful, and natural way:
Nothing felt forced — and that ease shows in the images.
When couples feel comfortable and curious, the photos naturally reflect connection instead of an awkward performance.
While this session was rooted in a holiday setting, the final images feel timeless rather than seasonal. The vintage styling, warm color palette, and focus on connection mean these photos will still feel meaningful long after the decorations are packed away.
Holiday sessions don’t have to be about perfection or tradition. They can be about:
One of my favorite parts of working with couples is helping them imagine what’s possible beyond the standard portrait session. Whether that’s a themed pop-up studio, an in-home session, a creative rental space, my studio, or something entirely unexpected, the goal is always the same: to create images that feel like you.
If you’re drawn to sessions that feel intentional, expressive, and a little outside the box, I’m always happy to help you explore ideas and locations that bring your vision to life!
