At the beginning of a new year, everyone always says how fast the last year went by. It’s kind of a cliché now, right? But I guess it doesn’t make it any less true! Another year came and went and now we are faced with a new one. What does the new year mean? What will we use it for? How will we spend this next year, while in these bodies, and on this earth? It can kind of be overwhelming to think about. For some it’s exciting, others daunting. I feel that it all depends on what plans you have for yourself, and what your state of mind is. I often will do a yearly goals list, but never resolutions. It’s too easy to fail and then feel crappy about yourself. I may encourage myself to try something new, or to have certain energies or thoughts I’d like to focus more on, or let go of. I try to find the energy and bravery to look deep in my heart and find what it desires. Then try to marry that to the rest of the energy in my body and mind to find a way they can all work together to achieve them. It’s hard. I don’t always want to do it, and often put it off way too long. Eventually I can finally come around to it and find it, then work to find my drive to accomplish it. Way easier said than done- but worth it. Kinda like when I don’t want to go work out- but I feel better once I do. Especially when I treat myself to taco bell after. (I’m a grown up, I can do what I want.)
All that being said, as I look back on 2018, I’m proud of myself for the work I’ve done. And the work Charles (my partner and second shooter) and I have done together. And honestly- we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you. YOU are our inspiration, and because of you, we are able to create art and capture the beauty, adventure, and love this last year offered up to us. Thank you so very much for allowing us into your life and being vulnerable and trusting us. You shared in our growth, as we shared in yours. We have the best jobs- and we wouldn’t have them without all you beautiful souls. What amazing people you are.
This year we had the pleasure of photographing some amazing elopements- many of people who traveled into Nashville from all over the world! We fell even more in love with elopements, and small intimate weddings. We would love to shoot double what we did next year of them. Actually, let’s be real, I’d shoot one every day if I could! We scaled back on larger weddings this last year as we explored more event work, here in Nashville and beyond, took on more elopements and intimate weddings, and boudoir work. We love love stories. And babes. And cool events. Basically- give us the chance to get behind the camera, and you in front of it, and we can make some rad stuff happen. Let’s do this 2019!
Here are some of our faves from last year!
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.
So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”
